Spring is one of the busiest times on-farm but it’s got easier for a Taranaki couple, thanks to the ability to purchase stock without leaving the farm.

Hayden and Jacquie Megaw run around 1100 beef cattle on a 680 hectare hill property in North Taranaki.

Hayden Megaw says the farm is located “45 minutes from the yards so attending sales in person means a round trip of 1.5 hours – let alone time at the yards – amounting to a big chunk out of your day.

“We do a lot of trading but normally, at this time of year, we wouldn’t be buying more stock as we’re simply too busy on the farm.

“We don’t employ staff and right now, with our 140 Hereford breeding cows calving, 1000 other cattle to shift and feed-out to and our annual service bull sale coming up, we’re too busy to leave the farm.

“The introduction of NZ Farmers Livestock’s online auction platform, MyLiveStock, in March this year has meant we’re able to continue trading – without leaving the farm.

“Once you know the weights and have your eye in, bidding online is really easy and ensures good use of your time. The new platform has made a positive difference to our business,” Hayden Megaw said.
